Happy winter semester, 2010. We will be continuing all of our meetings at their previously scheduled times:
Social meetings: Tuesdays! 8-11PM (Meet in the UC)
Planning meetings: Friday! 12:30-1:30 (Meet in 1198 SSB)
We hope to have a very productive and awesome new year. We have received a grant from Campus Progress and we will be able to expand the available LGBTQ resources on campus.

\n AIDS Walk Detroit
This Sunday, September 20th, a number of our members will be meeting to attend the 2009 AIDS Walk. If you'd like to attend, e-mail the event coordinator Sarah at: shields.sarah@yahoo.com. We need to know by Saturday the 19th at 12:00 so we have a headcount. You should also register online at the above. If you'd like to carpool, we'll be meeting in front of the University Center on campus at 9:00AM on Sunday.
Movie Night
Sunday night after the AIDS Walk, Tom will be hosting a movie night at his house starting at 6:00PM. For directions call Tom at 313-452-3861.
HalloWeekends
We'll be attending Cedar Point's HalloWeekends on Sunday, October 18th. You can bring friends and family members to this event. Cedar Point will be open from 11:00AM-8:00PM, and tickets will be $32 per person if we have 15 or more people attending. Please let us know if you'd like to come so we can determine group size and the number of cars we'll be needing; there's a sign-up sheet on the wall in the SSB office, and you can also e-mail Kendall at justaredherring@gmail.com if you're interested or have any questions.

Benjamin Jenkins here; one of your two co-presidents for this term; sharing the title with Corey Curtiss. I, as well as Corey, Kendall Casey as your secretary, Andrew Bosner as your Treasurer, and Thomas Wesley (Tom!) as your web designer, will be doing our very best to provide whatever services we can for the GSA as well as the university itself. (And at times, other LBTQ organizations throughout neighboring universities!)
I felt it would be a good idea for me to, briefly, make a post here, say a few words, and get my contact information out to anyone who would like to have it.
As I said, my name is Benjamin Jenkins; Ben works just fine. I am currently a sophomore at UofM-DB, majoring in History. I am big on writing, music, photography, and horseback riding. Generally I will be on campus running from class to class Monday through Thursday morning and afternoons. And of course for as many of the social nights and meetings as possible!
I am more than open to any suggestions, advice, you name it during this time of change. Feel free to tell me a bit about yourself, about what you want to see happen this year, you name it!

\n It looks like the best time for GSA meetings are going to be on *Fridays, from 12-2pm* in the GSA office (1198 SSB). The meetings will be *every week* and will be open to all people, students and non-students, so tell your friends and invite them along. This friday I'm going to give you a little direction on how this semester should go, transferring of roles from one generation to the next. This year and this semester especially are crucial to ensuring that this organization stays in place with good standing for years to come. We do not want to fade into the background.
As usual, there will be *pizza and soda (pop)* available for your pleasure, including one cheese for anyone vegetarian. It'll be good to just talk, get a handle on this semester, and then of course, kick butt for the year to come! If you have any questions, concerns, or need anything from me, call me at (313) 452-3861.

There are a few upcoming things going on for LGBTQ peoples and allies next week. First off, on Monday we have our speaker, Dr. Amorie Robinson
talking about intersecting identites. She will be on campus at 4:30 to 6:00 in Kochoff C.
Tuesday is the next GSA meeting from 1-3 PM in 1040 CB, the agenda is here (click). If you look at that agenda
there is obviously a lot of stuff going on and I certainly would appreciate you coming out to see us! There also will be elections going on in
a month or so... so if you're looking for that administrative position on campus then please, check out the GSA!

Next Tuesday, September the 23rd is out break-out event, Breaking Ice, Breaking Stereotypes. We need to get flyers out there. I will order them today and they will be on the desk when they are finished. PASS THEM OUT!
There is a bake sale the following wednesday, and then a week from the Tuesday is a SAFE Training. Lots of GSA events going on-so let's get together! No, for some odd reason we do not have a room, but when it gets processed we will get the room.
